Joseph faced a difficult decision. Even when he chose to do the right thing, he was still punished. Even in the darkest of times, God was with Joseph, putting him exactly where he needed to be for the next part of his story
Joseph earned the favor of Pharaoh and was placed in a position of authority. The faith that carried him through the darkness was the same faith that kept him humble in success. It’s not only in failure or struggle that a person’s character is tested. It’s also tested by the way we handle success.
Joseph’s perspective could have easily been negative. He was betrayed by his brothers, wrongfully punished for a crime he didn’t commit and forgotten by the one person he thought could help him. But because Joseph knew God was with him, he was able to trust that God was always at work. What if a change in perspective is all it takes?
The story of Joseph. The story of story of someone who grew up as a favored child, only to become misunderstood and hated. Someone who was raised in a home full of anger, jealousy and deceit. Joseph’s story was a mess from the beginning. Each step more uncertain than the last. It’s not until we reach the end until we see that God was always at work.
How can we be set free from the regret of our past sins? How can we move on when the world won’t let us forget? Joseph’s brothers felt the weight of their sins, knowing that one decision in the past led to their current situation. What they didn’t know was that God was leading them on a path of redemption.
Joseph was hated by his own brothers, and out of jealousy, they sold him into slavery. But now, years later, they come to him asking for help, not knowing who he is. Joseph holds all the power. What will he do? How will he act toward his brothers who wronged him so?
Joseph spent two years in prison waiting to be set free. He was overlooked. Ignored. His voice unheard. Though his future looked grim, he continued to use the gifts God gave him exactly where he was.
Joseph was hated by his own brothers. Sold into slavery, life as he knew it was over. He was abandoned by those who should have loved him—who should have protected him. He was betrayed—tossed to the side—but never for one moment was he abandoned by God.
