Description: When was the last time you were truly peace filled? What was it like? I don’t mean the last time you were relaxed or well rested. When was the last time you were filled with peace?
Peace was and is important to Jesus. Without Him it wouldn’t even be possible!
There was a priest named Zechariah who was told by the angel Gabriel that he would have a son, name him John, and that his son would prepare the people for the coming Messiah. After his son, John the Baptist was born, Zechariah prophesied: “Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace” (Luke 1:78-79 NLT).
Do you ever find that it is easier to think about the shadow of death than the path of peace? You and I live in a dark world. It can be scary at times. But let’s remember that as followers of Christ, we live in the light of His glory. We live in the shelter of His peace.
During the last week of His life, Jesus—the same morning light that Gabriel had spoken about—was having a Passover dinner with His disciples. “Peace I leave with you,” He said. “My peace I give to you; but not the way the world does. Don’t let your heart be troubled, don’t let it be afraid” (John 14:27).
So today we light the advent candle that represents Peace because Jesus was, is, always will be our path to peace.
