Description: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
This Word was Jesus, God’s Son. And God loved His Son.
God also loved the world that He created, and it pained Him to see the way that sin was destroying it.
So God showed His loved to world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life.
So His Son, the Word, the true light who gives light to everyone, was coming into our world. He became flesh and lived among us, and we observed His glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
And remember, God didn’t send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. He was not only “God of mankind,” He was also “God with mankind.”
Isn’t it beautiful how the Christmas season encourages us to focus on the birth of Christ? But let’s not stop there. We know that the “who” of the story is Jesus and the “what” of the story is His miraculous birth, but let’s pause for a second and think about the “why.”
The advent candle we are lighting today is the Love candle. We have seen the ultimate act of love that was the sacrifice the Father made on behalf of His children, the ones He loved. And church, He loves us, too.
