Most likely, you’ve either heard of Pinterest or you have your own personal account, but is your church on Pinterest? This social media platform goes a lot farther than the simple “do-it-yourself” project. Here are some great ways that your church can benefit from Pinterest.
1.) Plan
Think of Pinterest as your own personal “event coordinator.” Whether you are planning this year’s Vacation Bible School or next Sunday’s small group, there are tons of creative decorating, coordinating, and curriculum ideas to take advantage of. Below is a screen shot of the results of my search on “Vacation Bible School.”
From just the first 12 pins, you can get ideas for crafts, themes, decorations, and snacks! Think about creating boards for each event or activity at your church. Once the boards are established, you can begin pinning ideas for you to reference, as the event gets closer.
2.) Inspire
Create a board or two devoted to scripture or messages of hope and encourage your congregation to follow them. Soon, your boards will become a source of daily inspiration and motivation for not only your local community but also the Pinterest community. Use this as an opportunity to share His Word outside of the four walls of your church.
3.) Educate
Pinterest is a great way to educate the community about your church, it’s mission, and all the events you have going on. You can create special boards where you can invite other Pinterest users to share their photos and pins. This is a great opportunity to involve your members by asking them to post pictures from Sunday’s worship service, last week’s prayer breakfast, VBS, and more! This may encourage and excite visitors to see what your church is all about.
4.) Recommend
Create a “personal” touch to your boards by allowing your staff to recommend their favorite books, blogs, movies, recipes, and music.
Of course these aren’t the only ways for churches to utilize Pinterest.
Does your church already have an account? What are some other ways for churches to use Pinterest? We’d love to hear from you!
